For more than twenty years medical spa and wellness expert Michael Wallace has worked in the health, wellness and medical tourism industries. With a background in fitness he worked his way up from club to regional manager for LivingWell Health Clubs (Hilton) and later Soho Gyms in London, U.K. In 1999 he moved to Budapest, Hungary to design, set up and operate 7 fitness clubs for Danubius Hotels Group spread across Hungary and Central Europe.
For the last 15 years Michael has been contracted consultant Brand Manager and Group Spa Director for Danubius Health Spas with the responsibility for the operations, business performance and development of 20 complex medical and leisure health spas across Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and the Czech Republic.
In addition to over 20 years ‘hands on’ experience in medical spa, wellness and fitness management, his remit includes the planning and launching of large scale medical spa/fitness/wellness projects and redevelopments in both Central Europe and the UK.
He regularly presents at spa and wellness conferences, is a part-time lecturer for the Budapest Business School and Budapest Metropolitan University on Health and Wellness Tourism/Spa and Fitness Management. He contributes articles to Spa Opportunities Magazine and has co-authored with Dr.Szilvia Boros the handbook - 'Fitness, Health and Wellness' in Hungarian, is general secretary of the International Medical Wellness Association and a member of the Global Thermal Think Tank.

Successful spa operations always bring with them certain challenges. In my experience, these challenges are generic no matter what the geographical area or spa concept. Such examples include: staff recruitment & motivation, customer service and sales. The purpose of this workshop is to share experiences and to come up with some concrete solutions and answers to the problems and obstacles facing spa managers and operators in 2018.
